Course of

Gouache

In High and Very High Jewellery, this technique is used to present a jewellery project to the final customer, preffering it to software renderings. A painting technique originated in Italy in the 16th century and known as ‘guazzo’, it was then spread by the French in the 18th century with the name that is still in use today to identify it: ‘gouache’. A specific pigment is used, with the same nature as tempera, but made more consistent by the addition of chalk or white lead, together with an acacia gum compound. Having a solid knowledge of this technique means being part of an elite group of goldsmiths, very few of whom practise it. Definitely a valuable calling card.

A certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the Course program.

Program

Introduction to the technique, description of the material required, explanation of colour (how to obtain the right shades and colour rendering of metals and stones). Gouache of geometric shapes and colouring at will: reproduction of small jewellery pieces and more complex shapes. Gouache of a parure composed by a necklace, earrings and ring.
