Course of

Anticlastics, embossing and chiselling

This Course begins with the oldest plate deformation techniques, anticlastics, to finally arrive at the great tradition of Renaissance embossing and chiselling. Anticlastic, a technique used to make pieces of important volumes, is based on the deformation of the plate through the use of specific hammers on templates made of resin, wood and steel. Cold forging leads the sheet to obtain a great variety of shapes and sinuous, soft curves. Embossing and chiselling, a natural evolution of anticlastic, leads the student to the maximum expression of metal deformation through the use of the embossing hammer and chisels. The result is jewellery of great refinement, prestige and remarkable lightness, with surprising shapes.

A certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the Course program.

Program

Theoretical knowledge of the properties, modelling methods and characteristics of sheet metal. Cutting the sheet and its initial shaping on special templates. Control and management of metal movements. Forging by direction and tension. Smoothing and hammering. Hot forging of chisels and their handling. Forging by vacuum machining. Chiselling from the inside and undercut with special irons. Relief chisel finishing. Closing and finishing of the plate.
